Sinfonia 3

Our Sinfonia series concludes with a very special collaboration between NSO Sinfonia and local favourites, Lady Cove, under the direction of the incomparable Kellie Walsh. Makkipok!, featuring guest soloist Deantha Edmunds, soprano, and guest organist Tom Gordon, is taking place at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist, will feature selections which highlight and celebrate Labrador.

More than 200 years ago Moravian missionaries introduced European sacred music to the Inuit people of Labrador.  Across the centuries, Inuit singers and instrumentalists transformed an imported music into a unique expression of Inuit cultural identity.  Makkipok! Labrador Inuit Music for Passiontide and Easter showcases some of these beautiful 18th and 19th century classical works for choir and orchestra, reconstructed from original manuscripts found in the collections of churches in Nain, Hopedale and Hebron.
