You don’t have to be a musician to play your part in the NSO. Consider volunteering, donating or becoming a sponsor—your support makes our work possible!

Because of your support:

  • NSO musicians have visited local schools and participated in distance learning sessions reaching thousands of students locally and across the province
  • Over 500 students each year participate in a “jam session” for our Sing In/Play In series at the Music School, together with Marc David and our string quartet
  • We have expanded our outreach program, visiting and performing at local seniors’ homes
  • Our quartet now offers an annual concert specifically designed for those with special sensory needs
  • The Atlantic String Quartet has recorded their first album which was released in 2020

INDIVIDUAL GIVING

By supporting the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra you are making an investment in one of this province’s most important educational, musical, and cultural resources. The NSO performs nearly 20 times each season and reaches over 20,000 people across all demographics. This would not be possible without the support of the community, local businesses and people like YOU! There are many different ways to support your NSO and help us continue to grow orchestral music in Newfoundland and Labrador

Securities & Trusts: Changes to the Federal Income Tax Act eliminating the Capital Gains Tax have made publicly traded securities (stocks, bonds, or mutual funds) very attractive giving options. Please consult with your financial planner to learn how giving securities can benefit you.**

Donations: Ticket sales and subscriptions cover only a small portion of the funds required to produce high quality concerts and important education and outreach programs. Our individual donors are integral in sustaining the NSO’s mission to make live orchestral music accessible and available to all.

As an NSO donor, you will receive a charitable tax receipt* for your donation of $20 or more as well as recognition in our Season Program.

*The Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra is recognized by CRA as a registered charity. (12207 6227 RR0001)
**Gifts of publicly traded securities are received by the NSO Foundation Inc. (85559 9684 RR0001)

NSO MUSICAL CHAIRS

The NSO’s Musical Chairs program offers a unique opportunity for music lovers and supporters to establish a direct connection with members of the orchestra.

Did you know that ticket revenue only covers a quarter of the costs of presenting concerts and outreach programs? The fact that we are able to bring the joy of orchestral music to the public is in large part due to the generosity of our donors. Funds raised through the Musical Chairs program represent one third of the total support received annually from individual donors.

But becoming a Musical Chairs supporter is about more than a financial commitment to the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra. By contributing to this program, you are helping keep classical music and music education alive and well in Newfoundland and Labrador!

Below are just some of the benefits you will receive in recognition of your contribution to the Musical Chairs program:

Name recognition on the NSO website*.
The opportunity to meet and interact with the musician in your sponsored chair.
A special invitation to a dress rehearsal and reception.
A tax receipt for the full amount of your gift.
*Musical Chairs may be named for you and/or a loved one, in memory of a loved one, or your company.

To select your chair, please contact the NSO office at 709.722.4441 or email Lynn Ann Pye, Patron Relations at lp@nsomusic.ca
