CONCERT DETAILS
Take a sweeping musical voyage with Echoes from the Isles: Mendelssohn & Beach, a vibrant evening of orchestral storytelling presented by the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra on Friday, November 14, 2025 at 8pm at the Arts and Culture Centre. Conducted by the ever-charismatic Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser and presented byRed Door Hearing, part of HearingLife, this concert is part of the NSO’s Masterworks Series.
The program opens with Anna Clyne’s Masquerade, a dazzling, high-energy overture that channels the flair and festivity of 18th-century London promenade concerts. From swirling waltzes to brassy fanfares, it’s a whirlwind of orchestral colour.
Next, Mendelssohn’s The Hebrides (Fingal’s Cave), Op. 26 paints a misty, dramatic seascape inspired by his journey to Scotland’s rugged coast—an aural postcard full of waves, cliffs, and wonder.
The evening culminates with Amy Beach’s Symphony in E minor, “Gaelic”, a sweeping and lyrical masterpiece that draws on Irish and Scottish folk melodies. It’s music steeped in nostalgia, passion, and the power of tradition.
To top it off, the NSO welcomes a winner of the prestigious Canadian Music Competition, a young artist ready to shine with poise and flair.
